RedFork Main Street Two-Time Top 3 Nominee
Tulsa, OK – On Friday, March 20, Linda Barnett with the Oklahoma Main Street Center, released the Main
Street Top Three Award Nominees for the Oklahoma Main Street Awards. Each award category falls under one
of the Four Points in the Main Street Approach – Organization, Promotion, Design and Economic Restructuring.
RedFork Main Street wrote six nominations for competitive awards and captured two top three nominations
this year.
The top three nominees for “Premier Partner” are: Ardmore-The Market on Broadway; Enid-Park Avenue Thrift;
and RedFork-Webster High School. This award honors the community that has demonstrated the highest
degree of cooperation between the Main Street organization and a partner. The award nomination sites
RedFork Main Street and Webster High School’s interaction on many levels including Phil Garland’s involvement
with the RFMS Board of Directors, Junior Army ROTC students involvement with the RFMS annual clean-up
days and paint projects, and the partnership of RFMS and Webster on the football concession stand in 2008.
The top three nominees for “Best Building/Business Signage” are: Muskogee-McEntee’s Jewelry Sing/Surety
Building; Newkirk-Historic Cline Building; and RedFork-RedFork Crossing, owned by Gary Percefull and Linda
Jordan. The award recognizes the best signage installed within the Official Main Street area in 2008. Eligible
signs include brand new signs, refurbished historic sign, and restored or stabilized “ghost” signs. The
nomination for RedFork Crossing explains the simplicity and uniqueness of the sign that creates a nostalgia for
the early 1930s – the time period in which the offices in the RedFork Crossing complex were built.
"With over 250 competitive nominations, each finalist should feel as though they have already won. These
nominations represent the best people, projects and activities in our 41 communities across Oklahoma,” said
Linda Barnett, Director of the Oklahoma Main Street Center, Oklahoma Department of Commerce.
Last year, RFMS submitted only two nominations for awards and none were in the top three nominees. Katy
Davis, RedFork Main Street Executive Director said, “This is an amazing feeling. The awards are very
competitive and being in the top three is a huge pat on the back for such a young program. I’m only
disappointed that the other four nominations RFMS won’t be recognized. I feel that all of our projects are
worthy of recognition – especially the time and energy volunteers put into making each project successful.”
Each program is recognized in two non-competitive categories: Crowning Achievement and Board Member of
the Year, both of which are decided by the Board of Directors. RedFork Main Street’s Crowning Achievement is
its Legislative Breakfast held in December at the Silo Event Center. This year’s Board Member of the Year is
Jim Frasier of Frasier, Frasier, and Hickman.
The first place winner in each category will be announced at the annual awards Main Street Awards Banquet to
be held May 19, 2009 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
The RedFork Main Street office is located at 3708 Southwest Boulevard at RedFork Crossing. Anyone
interested in getting involved as a volunteer with the RedFork Main Street program may contact Katy Davis at
